Ideate: Brainstorm Possible Solutions to Address Your Need/Problem
Ideation Session:
After writing our Need Statement: "Pediatric patients need a way to feel calm and entertained while waiting for the doctor, so as to, make the patient experience more comfortable and inviting," we considered all of the possible ways that we can create a calm and entertaining experience for patients. The first step in ideating is to "go wild" with ideas. All ideas are good ideas!
Next, we reviewed each possible solution for the following criteria:
- Did the solution address our Need Statement? If the solution did not address our need for a calm and entertaining space, it was eliminated.
- Did the solution match with the suggested recommendations provided by the Interior Designer? This included lighting suggestions, furniture recommendations, and activities. Any solutions that did not match with the recommendations of the expert were eliminated.
- Did the solution pose any harm or risk for patients? If so, it was eliminated.
In the end, we wanted our prototype to include the following characteristics:
- Teen space to include access to electronics and outlets, books, and beanbags
- Kid space to include a fish tank, communal activities, books, and appropriately sized furniture
- Water feature
- Wall murals
- Comfortable furniture that is easy to clean
- Attention to lighting
- Bamboo flooring
